What's the best Amazon keyword research tool for a new seller?

For a first listing, Jungle Scout is the pick: its Starter plan is $29/mo billed annually and includes Keyword Scout, which reverse-searches up to 10 competitor ASINs with exact and broad search volumes (checked October 2026). If you want sponsored-keyword data and more searches, Growth Accelerator at $49/mo on annual billing is the better buy. SellerSprite Basic at $39 USD a month is the budget route with no daily cap on reverse ASIN; Helium 10 Platinum is the step up once you know you will keep the suite.

This guide is assembled from each vendor's own pricing and tool pages, with every limit and price quoted as the vendor prints it, rather than first-hand use. Where a pricing page could not be read, no price is printed.

What a new seller actually needs from a keyword tool

A first product needs three things from keyword software, and none of them is "the biggest database." You need search volume for the phrases shoppers type, so the title and bullets carry terms people use. You need a reverse ASIN lookup, which takes a competitor's listing and returns the keywords it ranks for, so you are not guessing. And once the listing is live you need sponsored-keyword data or at least cost-per-click estimates, so the first PPC campaign is not built blind. Caps matter more than features at this stage: a plan with a monthly search limit you will hit in week two is worse than a plainer tool with no cap.

Our reverse ASIN lookup guide explains how that lookup works under the hood; this page is about which plan to pay for when you are new.

Jungle Scout Catalyst: the pick for a first listing

Jungle Scout sells its seller suite as Catalyst, and the Catalyst plans page lists three tiers. On annual billing, Starter is "$29/mo x12 months | $348 annually", Growth Accelerator is "$49/mo x12 months | $588 annually" and Brand Owner is "$129/mo x12 months | $1,548 annually"; the page notes "Starter Save $240" and "Growth Accelerator Save $360" against monthly billing. Month to month the same page shows "Starter $49/mo", "Growth Accelerator $79/mo" and "Brand Owner + CI $149/mo".

The keyword tool is Keyword Scout, and the plans table is where the caps hide. The row reads "Keyword Scout 50 searches/month 250 searches/month" followed by a check mark with no number for Brand Owner, so Starter gets 50 searches a month, Growth Accelerator 250, and Brand Owner shows no printed cap. The next rows matter for PPC: "Sponsored/PPC Data" is marked off for Starter and on for the two higher tiers, and "Historical Keyword Data 1 month 1 year 2 years" means Starter sees one month of history. On the feature page, Jungle Scout says Keyword Scout "pulls millions of data points to show you exact and broad keyword search volumes", lets you "Reverse-search up to 10 ASINs and compare their related organic and sponsored keywords", and shows "the cost-per-click for keywords in exact, broad, and headline search ads". Marketplace coverage per the plans page: Catalyst "is compatible with marketplaces in the United States, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain."

Two practical notes. First, there is no trial: "While we do not offer a free trial, we do offer a 7-day money back guarantee on our standard plans for Jungle Scout Catalyst." Second, 50 Keyword Scout searches a month is enough to research one product thoroughly, but not to browse niches all month; if you are still choosing a product, read our Jungle Scout review and budget for Growth Accelerator. Helium 10: the most data, with a cap on Platinum

Helium 10's keyword tools are Cerebro (reverse ASIN) and Magnet (seed keyword). Cerebro's page says to "Paste in your own or a competitor's ASIN to get a list of every keyword that product ranks for, both organic and paid", and that you can "Analyze up to 10 ASINs side by side." Magnet's page describes filters a new seller will use on day one: "Set a minimum search volume, include or exclude words, and filter by title density (how many page-one listings use the term in the title)."

The pricing page lists two self-serve plans: "Pay monthly 129 USD/mo 359 USD/mo" for Platinum and Diamond, or "99 USD/mo*" and "279 USD/mo*" when you pay yearly. The keyword row for Platinum reads "Find new keyword opportunities with reverse ASIN lookup or seed phrases to see what other products are ranking for" with "100 searches monthly", while the Diamond column shows a check mark with no number. There is a free tier, but Helium 10 is candid that "Access is limited with the Free plan, but the Platinum plan and above plans include full access to the Chrome Extension for both Amazon, TikTok Shop, and Walmart marketplaces." Platinum also includes a profit tracker and inventory tools that a first-time seller will not touch for months, which is why it is the step-up pick rather than the default; our Helium 10 vs Jungle Scout comparison covers the full suites. SellerSprite: unlimited reverse ASIN at the lowest paid price

SellerSprite's pricing page currently shows "Basic Plan $ 39 USD List Price: $ 49 USD Billed monthly", "Standard Plan $ 79 USD List Price: $ 98 USD Billed monthly", and annual options with "Get 2 months free with annual billing". The feature list underneath is the reason it belongs on a new seller's shortlist: "Keyword Mining Unlimited", "Keyword Research Unlimited" and "Reverse ASIN Unlimited", with the footnote that "Unlimited" means "no daily cap." The catch is tracking: Basic lists "Keyword Tracker: 0", and you need Standard for "Keyword Tracker: 500". There is a short trial, "FREE 3-Day trial of Monthly Plan", and a "Free Chrome Extension for Amazon sellers."

For a seller who wants to run reverse-ASIN lookups all day on a budget and does not need rank tracking yet, Basic is the value play. Read our SellerSprite review for how its interface compares. Check the price at sellersprite.com

AMZScout: a free trial with no card, and a price we could not read

AMZScout's home page lists "Amazon Keyword Search & Product Keywords Lookup 2.0", described as a way to "Enhance your Amazon listing by discovering thousands of effective keywords for your product or obtaining them from successful competitors' pages using the ASIN", plus a "Keyword Tracker" to "Make sure that your product's keywords are indexed by Amazon". Its trial terms are the most beginner-friendly on this page: "No credit card required Unlimited-time trial". AMZScout's pricing page renders in the browser and did not return readable text to our fetcher, so no AMZScout price is printed here; check the current price before you compare. Our AMZScout review covers the bundle. See current price

A note on ZonGuru

If an older guide pointed you to ZonGuru's keyword tools, check the vendor's site first. ZonGuru's pricing page now lists only Helix plans, an AI listing-engineering product, and its FAQ frames keywords as one half of that job: "A9, Amazon's keyword engine, still decides where a listing ranks on a keyword search, and Helix engineers that half on a decade of ZonGuru keyword, ranking and niche data." It is not a standalone keyword research subscription any more.

How to choose in two minutes

Pick Jungle Scout Starter if you have a product and want the simplest guided path from keyword list to listing, and 50 searches a month is enough. Pick Growth Accelerator if you will run PPC in the first month and want sponsored-keyword data and a year of history. Pick SellerSprite Basic if budget rules and you want uncapped reverse ASIN lookups, accepting no tracker. Pick Helium 10 Platinum if you already know you will use the operations tools too; the keyword cap is 100 searches a month, which is plenty for one launch. Skip all of them for now and use AMZScout's no-card trial if you have not chosen a product yet.

Whatever you choose, build the listing around a short list of terms with real volume rather than a 500-keyword dump; our tool stack for beginners shows how keyword software fits with the rest, and you can see our full shortlist of research tools.

Article FAQ

Is there a completely free Amazon keyword research tool worth using?

Partly. Helium 10 offers a Free plan but says access to it is limited; SellerSprite offers a free Chrome extension and a three-day trial of its monthly plan; AMZScout offers an "Unlimited-time trial" with "No credit card required". None of these gives a new seller unlimited reverse-ASIN lookups for free, which is the lookup you most need.

Is Jungle Scout or Helium 10 better for keyword research as a beginner?

Jungle Scout, on price and simplicity. Its Starter plan is $29/mo on annual billing against Helium 10 Platinum at 99 USD/mo yearly, and both reverse-search up to 10 ASINs. Helium 10 gives more data per lookup and more tools around it, which is why it wins once you are scaling, but a first launch rarely needs Diamond-level depth.

How many keyword searches does a new seller need per month?

Fewer than the marketing suggests. One product needs a handful of seed searches and reverse-ASIN pulls on the top competitors, then a tracker once the listing is live. Jungle Scout caps Starter at 50 Keyword Scout searches a month and Helium 10 caps Platinum at 100 searches monthly; SellerSprite's Basic plan is uncapped but has no tracker.

Do these tools work outside the US marketplace?

Jungle Scout Catalyst lists compatibility with the United States, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. Helium 10 lists marketplace support by tool on its site, and SellerSprite and AMZScout publish their own marketplace lists; check the vendor page for the marketplace you sell in before paying.
